Elite Foil & Epee

Tailored for the competitive fencer, this program is committed to fostering both physical and mental development. Structured technical and tactical sessions will be combined with continuous yoga, Feldenkrais, and strength training instruction. Included in the package is a video analysis session to be scheduled weekly. Fencers will receive a minimum of two private lessons per week. The program includes a winter, pre-national, and summer camp. (Membership included in price)

Youth Elite Foil & Epee

Similar to the elite program, these sessions are adjusted in length and intensity for the more serious youth fencer. This designation gives the student the honour of representing the club at competitions and puts them on track for promotion to the top tier elite program. (Membership included in price)

Advanced Foil & Epee

Comprised of experienced competitive fencers who desire a more structured, goal oriented approach; this program will provide direction for the athlete adjusting to the demands of fencing and university / work. The advanced foil and elite programs will be synched at specific times during the week to provide a more enriched environment for both groups. (Membership included in price)

Adult Intermediate

This is geared towards the experienced yet more recreational fencer (for those who have fenced in college or at other clubs and are interested in further tactical instruction).

Little Zorro

Focusing on exercises and games aimed at the development of coordination, focus, and flexibility, in children. This is a fun energetic atmosphere in which young Zorros can discover fencing.

Youth Starter Program

An exciting introduction to the basics of our complete system, students will progress through four levels of classes. Each level is ten weeks in duration and meets either once or twice a week. Upon successful graduation, the student will be evaluated for promotion to the elite programs of the club.

Adult Beginner

Empire United welcomes adults of all ages. Come experience the exhileration of the duel. Participants in this class will be introduced to the basics of footwork, technique, and tactics. Instructors will create an atmosphere of discovery and experimentation in which fencers can more fully engage in bouting with an opponent.

This entitles the member to use of the facility during designated free fencing times and the right to schedule private lessons with our coaching staff.

About Empire United Fencing

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Our Mission

Our goal is to create an inclusive fencing environment, a united community fit for the Olympic hopeful through the recreational fencer.Unlike the more classical American program which focuses often exclusively on individual coach-student relationships, our new model provides a community of coaches who have a vested interest in each and every student. Empire United emphasizes an integrative, group approach to its training system. Students in all of the offered programs benefit from the insight and attention of our entire coaching staff. Empire United’s cohesive approach translates into an enriched, structured training environment conducive to the growth of both our fencer’s skill and overall enjoyment of the sport. Empire United Fencing fosters the pursuit of personal excellence and enrichment for the student who has experienced the excitement of the strip for a few weeks or many years. We envision the development of Olympic champions, yet understand that the realization of each student’s potential is the ultimate goal. One key to achieving this goal is a proactive relationship between the coaching staff and the parent. Parents become community members with a thorough understanding of the “Blueprint” for their child’s development. Unique to our approach is the prioritization of physical, mental, and body awareness skills that promote lifelong discovery. In addition to the youth program, all adult and collegiate fencers will be welcomed as a valued member of the community, with programs tailored to their individual needs for continued progression.Conveniently located across from Penn Station and major subway lines, our brand new facility is state of the art. Built with the belief that a fencing center is more than just a high volume workout facility, our space pays particular attention to enhancing the overall experience of both the athlete and spectator alike. Designed to protect against the rigors of repetitive movement our thirteen strips sit upon a sprung floor modeled after the finest ballet and dance studios in the country. The coaches and staff at Empire United Fencing are Olympic caliber, having been represented in the eternal games for the past twelve years: Atlanta ’96, Sydney ’00, Athens ’04, and have a combined 60 years of coaching expertise.

Congratulations to all our fencers who did very well at the Summer Nationals, particularly our Jr. Womens Foil Team who brought home the Gold Medal!
